FAQ

What are allergenes?

Allergenic fragrances are substances to which the body’s immune system can potentially have an allergic reaction. Perfume allergy is one of the major causes of contact dermatitis and people with sensitive skin are particularly vulnerable. 26 fragrances are listed and considered to be particularly allergenic and, therefore, in accordance with the cosmetic legislation, which became valid on 11 March 11 2005,they must be declared on the packaging if the concentration of one or more of the 26 fragrance chemicals are above 0.001% in the product.

What are parabens?

Parabens is a common name for a group of six preservatives comprising Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, isopropylparaben and Isobutylparaben.

For more than 60 years, these preservatives have typically been used in cosmetics such as creams, shampoos and make-up to prevent bacterial and fungal growth and decomposition of the product and thus some of the most documented preservatives on market. The parabens work actively on a broad spectrum of bacteria and prevents the products from decomposing and creating infection. They are also mild for the skin and only very few people develop an allergy to them.

The content of parabens in cosmetic products in Denmark is regulated under the statuary order of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. Products are only allowed a limited concentration which, according to dermatologists, only rarely causes allergies.

Four out of six parabens are included on the EU list of substances suspected of being endocrine disruptors. There is much debate among scientists and in the media about whether parabens are endocrine disrupters. This has subsequently created great uncertainty among consumers.

But the six parabens are not alike and their impact and effects are not the same. Therefore, it is important to distinguish between the various parabens. Some are completely harmless and some can be called into question. If you have doubts about the use of parabens, you can completely avoid them and choose products with other preservatives. Raunsborg® products do not contain any parabens.

Are the products tested on animals?

Our products are not tested on animals. The products are developed in our lab in Denmark and once they are ready for testing, 100 volunteers in the right target group are given the products to use for a six-week period. The results are actively used in our product development.

What is the shelf life of your products?

The Raunsborg products have a shelf life of 12 months after opening. The shelf life may be reduced by storing the products inappropriately. We recommend that the products be stored at room temperature.

Where are the products produced?

Raunsborg® is the result of a close collaboration between fashion expert, Jim Lyngvild, and the Danish company, Plum, which is a manufacturer of skincare products for the industry and the Danish Health Care system. Jim Lyngvild has contributed with his creativity, inspiration and knowledge of the unique active qualities of plants, herbs and flowers while Plum’s laboratory has provided many years of experience and expertise in the product development. The products are developed and manufactured by Plum A/S in Assens, Denmark.

Why Raunsborg®?

The name Raunsborg® originates directly from Jim’s Viking fortress, Ravnsborg. The beauty product series is inspired by knowledge from old books and the wealth of the Nordic nature. Nature itself can create small miracles and, by exploring the centuries-old book Flora Danica on Nordic plants, we have found forgotten renderings which we have brought back to life. Utilizing the powerful qualities of carefully selected Nordic herbs and using them constructively, we have created a unique line of products. Raunsborg® is Nordic beauty - quite simply.

How do I know if your products have ingredients that I am allergic to?

You can find an explanation on the different product ingredients her .

Does your Sun Lotion discolour clothing?

The UV filter can cause discoloration. Therefore, all products with a UV filter can stain and discolour clothing and other items. Allow the sun lotion to dry completely before getting dressed.

If your garment does become discoloured, we recommend that you apply soap to the stain and leave it to soak overnight. Then wash the garment as directed on the garment label. Repeat the process two to three times if necessary. Remember: do not use detergents with optical brighteners, bleach or stain remover with OXI effect. This can make the discolouration even worse and more difficult to remove.

Are the Raunsborg products organic?

No the products are not organic. And this is a very deliberate choice. A lot of people mistakenly confuse natural and organic products with hypoallergenic products.

In principle, you can be allergic to everything and there is no guarantee that the product is organic or natural. For example, many organic products contain essential oils which typically contain allergens.

Often, it is not possible to have the same control over ingredients in organic and natural products. This is possible in chemically manufactured products. Moreover, the bacteriology in non-organic products is easier to control. With chemical manufacturing, the ingredients can be precisely described as well as the quantity. This is beneficial for users and allergy sufferers in particular.

ARE RAUNSBORG SUN LOTIONS WATER-RESISTANT?

Raunsborg has not been tested for water-resistance. We believe that promising water-resistance gives false security and can be the source of misunderstanding. We always recommend that you apply sun lotion often if you sweat and after a swim.

DOES RAUNSBORG CONTAIN ENDOCRINE DISRUPTING SUBSTANCES?

The Danish Consumer Council has published the EU’s list of 17 endocrine disrupting products. None of Raunsborg’s products contain these substances. See the list here

WHY DO RAUNSBORG’S FACE CREAMS NOT CONTAIN SUN FACTOR?

Raunsborg face creams do not contain sun factor as sun filters are considered as being allergenic and, therefore, are not healthy to apply to the skin every day. In addition, only a select few need a UV cream on a daily basis if they work indoors while the sun is at its strongest. On weekends and on vacation, we typically spend far more time out in the sun in the middle of the day and need protection from the sun which is found in sunscreen and sun lotions.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EYE SERUM AND EYE CREAM?

We receive many questions about what the difference is between eye serum and eye cream. Actually, the difference is not that big and is more about what the manufacturer chooses to call the product.

The difference between serum and cream is mostly the consistency. The serum is more like a gel in its consistency. Also some eye creams cannot be used on their own and require the use of a day or night cream on top of the eye cream.

Raunsborg eye cream is a mixture of an eye cream and an eye serum. The consistency is a blend between a cream and a serum and can be easily used o nits own. So let your skin decide whether an eye cream is enough or whether your skin needs a face cream to be applied on top.

WHAT IS SLES AND SLS?

SLS is found in 90 percent of shampoos, detergents, toothpaste and the kind of things you use that have close contact to your body. A shampoo’s most important purpose is to dissolve the grease in the hair and on the scalp in particular. The soap substances in your shampoo that ensures this. The most popular soap substance is Sodium Laureth Sulphate (abbreviated to SLES) and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (abbreviated to SLS).

These sulphates can give a dry and irritated scalp and also destroy the hair strand’s protective surface (the cuticle layer) and makes the hair less resistant to the surroundings. It also makes the hair less healthy and shiny because the sulphates break down the proteins from the cortex of the hair.

If you want to protect your hair in the best possible way and also have healthy and strong hair, then you should choose a shampoo without sulphates.

Raunsborg shampoo does not contain SLES and SLS.

WHAT IS SILICONE?

Silicone is often used in cosmetics because it has a softening and conditioning effect on the skin/hair. We do not use silicone in Raunsborg products as it creates a film on the skin/hair. When using it in hair products, it gives a kind of ’body’ effect so the hair can become heavy and collapse and, in the long term, seem a little greasy. If you want to get rid of this feeling, then you must wash your hair with a shampoo that does not contain silicone. There are many different types of silicone – some are light and others are heavier/greasy.

When silicon is used and it leaves a film on the skin and hair, it also prevents the active substances from being absorbed into the skin and hair.

IS THERE ALUMINIUM IN RAUNSBORG’S DEODORANTS?

Raunsborg’s two deodorants/anti-perspirants both contain 1% aluminium. In the development of the products, we have been very focused on using the lowest possible amount of aluminium and to achieve a sufficient sweat inhibiting effect. By using a combination of a salt that contains zirconium and aluminium, Raunsborg has been able to achieve a particularly good effect. And even though the amount of aluminium is minimised, a just as effective or even better sweat inhibiting effect is achieved. In addition, all our products go through a safety evaluation before they are sent onto the market. This is your guarantee that we comply with applicable requirements in the cosmetic regulations and that our products are safe for consumers to use.
